How to Size a Hashrate Order for Your Budget

Work backward from a budget to the right volume and term. A simple method for sizing your first hashrate order.

Sizing an order is mostly arithmetic, and the calculator does the heavy lifting. Still, it helps to understand the shape of the math so the result feels like yours rather than a black box.

Start from the budget, not the volume

Pick the amount you are comfortable spending. That is your anchor. From there you only need two more decisions. How much power and for how long. Volume and term together set the cost, and the rate ties them to Bitcoin.

The core formula is friendly. Daily cost equals the rate in Bitcoin per petahash per day, times your volume in petahash. Multiply that daily cost by the number of days and you have the total. Change any input and the total moves in a way you can feel.

A worked example

Say the live rate is near a typical level and you choose one petahash for thirty days. The calculator multiplies the rate by one, then by thirty, and shows the total in Bitcoin with a dollar estimate beside it. Too high. Drop the volume or shorten the term. Too low. Nudge it up. You converge on a number in under a minute.

  • Set your budget first
  • Choose volume in petahash
  • Choose a term in days
  • Let the rate turn that into a Bitcoin total

Leave a little headroom

Costs drift as difficulty and the market move, so do not spend to the last satoshi. Fund a touch above your estimate. That headroom keeps a flexible order running smoothly even on a richer day, and it spares you from topping up at an awkward moment.

Once you have a number you like, fund the balance, submit the order, and watch delivery begin. The first order is the hardest. After that, sizing becomes second nature.
